The mission of the Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority (ASF) is to ensure the proper functioning of the insurance market and pension funds in Portugal, in order to ensure the protection of policyholders, insured, underwriters, participants, beneficiaries and injured parties.
In the field of its international activity, the ASF collaborates with various public and private law entities, at European Union or international level, with emphasis on coordination with similar supervisory authorities.
In this context, the ASF integrates or participates in the work of various institutions and bodies, whose activities are relevant for the purpose of fulfilling its duties, namely in terms of regulation and supervision of insurance and reinsurance activity, pension funds and insurance mediation, financial stability and financial literacy.
In particular, as part of the European System of Financial Supervision (ESFS), the ASF actively participates in the work of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) and the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB).
In terms of international activity, it should also be noted that ASF enters into cooperation agreements with similar entities, with particular emphasis on its interaction with members of the Association of Lusophone Insurance Supervisors (ASEL).
